| irvine lake report 11-10-04
i could not sleep well this a.m. and decided to go have breakfast @ the lake with plenty of coffee on this chilly a.m. , jumped in the car wishing i had brought a rod but didnt got to the lake had coffee with the employees and decided to walk the shore line spoke to many people and offered a few tips
really hit it off with 1 gentleman who was about to limit out @ 8.00 a.m. he was a nice guy with a talent and we started talking and telling the stories after a few minutes i asked him if he would like to try a new little jig i was testing and had very good luck with lately he said sure lets see , we quickly rigged it up and pitched it out less than 2 minutes later he had a nice average 1.2-2.0 # trout so again i asked would you like to try a new color i have but havent had a chance to try yet his reply was sure so we changed it up and within 60 second he is hooked up with what appears to be a bigger fish , fish comes to color and we see it is 1 of those BEAUTIFUL california golden trout that i have been chasing for weeks now but unable to connect with ( fish later weighs in @ 5.5 # ) about know i am kicking myself in the ass for giving up the details and not bringing a rod . so he tells me that he is prefishing today to bring his kids out later this week and i feel better i hope the kids catch some fish
i will try to post the pictures and see if they come up but please keep in mind i am computer illiterate
looked like it was a limit style fishing day for those that had a clue
good luck to all
i have uploaded the pics and hope they come out if not owell i am computer illiterate
see ya on the pond doug

That's a beautiful fish. The jig is something you made? Or a new manufacturer's jig? Just curious, I used to tie flies and such, so always interested in talking to someone who makes their own.

this particular hatchery call them california golden trout . the fish is basically the same as the much publicized lightning trout or thunder trout but due to politics and trademark/patent infringement laws as this lake we call them california golden trout .
i do believe that tim alpers has the recipe for bredding these fish and is in the process of bringing some up to size for planting purpose
i cant send you some jigs as there are to many to send of various different colors paterns etc.etc. but when you want to go fishing you let me know ,i am there for you and will gladly hook you up
testing still in process so trying to keep it low key for now !!!!

Hey Doug, not disagreeing with you, I think that is a Lightning trout from Whitewater, I don't see how someone could call it a California Golden trout if they are breeding them at a hatchery?? Alpers has been releasing some up in the Eastern Sierras, there some big fish due to genitics. To me the California Golden is a native in the upper Sierras, I also think they are the State freshwater fish, I am not sure but that is kinda what I think. The fish in that picture really doesnt look like a true Golden trout. Just my .02

Here is the actual Golden Trout...
The name is used to avoid the copyright problem with the other lakes...
