try averados in anaheim hills. filet w/ prawns in caper sauce is my favorite dish. kick ass caesar salad too. the owner is really knowledgable about about wines for each dish and ports for after dinner. its a small place and the owner really pays attention to small details. he will take good care of you there

I've eaten at Ruths Chris, Mortons, Lawrys, you name it. Mastros is the spot.
That seafood tower is sick. The garlic lobster mashed potatoes are sick good.

I've got a few other hole in the wall favorites over here. The Aresenal on Pico makes a good steak and pours stiff drinks. Billingsleys also on Pico makes a great steak and drinks are old school and reasonable. George Petrellis in Culver City is the same deal.
I hit up a place in OC with one of my girls friends that was pretty damn good. Maybe it was called La Cave? Yeah I'm pretty sure that was it, in Costa Mesa. A dive underground and dark but its real deal.
Now if you guys really want a steak and get up to Montana. Find a town called Belt. They make a steak and a drink the way it should be done.

Got to say for me it is a place called something like "The grill on the alley" right off Rodeo Dr, Beverly Hills. Absoulety incredible food and very pricey. Dont be in any type of hurry, everytime it seems as if you are in the company of the Godfather and his family

If you are in the Santa Monica/ West Valley area and want to try something exotic, I'd recommend the "Inn of the 7th Ray" located in the old Topanga section just off the Topanga Canyon. They have great steaks as well as lamb. It was a converted church with very romantic atmosphere. All their spices and veggies are organically grown. You can sit outside and, in the afternoon, the coyotes will come up along the Topanga creek and looking for hand-outs.

Donovan's, pricey (along the lines of Ruth Chris) but the service is unbelievable. We had 3 waiters for our table. My water glass was never less than 1/2 full and they cleaned the table after each course.
Mid priced would be Jocko's Steak House in Nipomo, CA. Kind of a Farmhouse / Family style atmosphere. Nothing like a Donovan's. Make sure your hungry.

You gotta try Captain Jack's In Huntington Harbor. It's on the corner of PCH and Broadway. They serve a 32 oz Prime Rib - called the captain's cut.
Another GREAT steak place with cool atmosphere is 21 Ocean in Newport Beach. It's right by Newport Pier - faces the ocean and boardwalk. I went there for my birthday a few years back and had ostrich - VERY ggod.
There was a place called Josh Slocums on PCH in Newport, but that bastard Dennis Rodman bought it and fucked the place up, then burned it to the ground. Or at least the insides anyway.

I'll throw my hat in the ring for Trabuco Oaks. I lived right around the corner for 9 years. Great steak and you can wear shorts and flip-flops to dinner.
As for San Diego, I like Tommy V's in La Costa. GREAT fucking steak and the service is AMAZING.

Lotta good places that I have went to and agree with, LG's in Palm Desert, LA Cave, Trubaco Oaks, Arnie Mortons Downtown LA (and close to home for me), JJ's in Pasadena, Ruths Chris in Pasadena.
One place that wasn't mentioned is Walt's Wharf, real nice 'romantic' atmosphere for the ladys, good drinks for the guys, and the filet is not all that expensive, but very tastey and they have always served it the way I liked it.
But, the best I have ever had, would be free grazing grass fed Big Island Beef, nothing can touch that shit... Doesnt matter who cooks it or how, that shit is tender and tasty.....
