The Arroyo Parkway Grill in Pasadena is the best hands down! been to Mortons and Ruth's Chris, both are nice but overrated.
Pasadena is a long drive from San Diego, but I guarantee that the dinner would be worth the ride!

I must agree that Mortons and Ruth Chris is over rated. Flemings in Downtown SD is nice, but in my opinion the waiters lack some experience. No offense to the younger folks but when I dish out some serious dinero for a meal, I expect a waiter to know what wine should accompany the entree. I didn't feel that vibe when at Flemings. George's on the Cove in La Jolla or Rain Waters on Ketner near SD airport was fantastic! The view at Georges was beautiful, and best of all you can see your local yak fisherman fishing while you eat! Expect at least $100 plus tip and drinks but well worth the money. I also heard that Mr. O's is also a great place. I will hit that place next.
If you happen to be north of Los Angeles, try the Harris Ranch steak house in Coalinga. One of the best steaks I've ever had. For you pilots out there, there is also a runway on the property with fuel! Good eating!

If you like fancy then this isn't for you, but for great steak and a real, uh, "down to earth" atmosphere try Trabuco Oaks Steak House. http://www.trabucooakssteakhouse.com
If you want something fancy and don't mind blowing a couple c-notes try The Great Oak at the Pechanga Casino in Temecula. http://www.pechanga.com/dining/greatoak.asp

Well, since a few other SD steak houses have been mentioned I have to pipe in with Bully's East on Cam Del Rio S in Mission Valley. Great atmosphere and the first time you see the full cut of prime rib come out on a plate your jaw will drop. I usually spend $80-$100 or so with a bottle of merlot and a beer or two...

My wife and I love to get the Rockhampton Ribeye at Outback.
On the weekend, try the prime rib at eggs special at the Flinn Springs Inn out in the east county.
Ruth's Chris is good, but WAY overpriced.
I'll tell you this, though- Any of the places mentioned kick the shit out of any beef I have tried in the UK.
They have good sausage here, and don't fear the haggis.

The Palms in Vegas (cesears palace) about 150 a head, best filet I evet had 18oz, there was a japanize place in Mandalay bay that had a porter house so good, I would pass up a blow job Salma Hayek to get another one.
