How has the Run been at the Big H?

Waiting to hear a report on how the spawning has been going at the fish hatchery. Shelly let us know. I assume you have been pretty busy with that.

Might as well. Too damn cold to think about fishing. Is this the year when Henry's isn't iced out by the opener?

They're taking a short break in the spawning right now cause their incubators are full. Once they get some eggs shipped out they will start spawning again. Shelly can probably give you the numbers if you want. She's working up there this weekend.

Steve-

Yep - we ship eggs next week to the hatchery that will raise them for us.
This weekend I am picking thru my thousands of eggs and getting the bad ones out. The eggs that I am working on are our Hybrids. They look real good.

I am on a lunch break that is about over, I will get the numbers to date up here after I get off work.
Thanks Mel

Lunch break? I'm gonna call my congressman. You F&G types get paid so much money you shouldn't get a lunch break. Work straight through we ain't paying you to eat lunch.............

Mel...

I could say so much but I wont...Picking on Fish & Game...tsik tisk
I know in Idaho they don't have to let you take a lunch or breaks - But I am lucky my boss is the best

Ok Steve here are some numbers
The eggs look so good. The Hybrids are eyed up and happy - just my opinion about the happy part.

Hybrids
Goal 700, 000
Taken 850,000

Cutt's
Goal 2.2 million
Taken 2.085 million

The number of fish trapped to date:
Hybrids 282
Cutt's 4198

The next spawn date is 4/3/08 10am-1pm
I wont be there - I get to go visit another hatchery Pyramid Lake Nevada!

As for a guesstimate about the ice off, that will be tough...
I am guessing May 13th for my Mom's Birthday and Barry, who works here too guessed May 15th.

Bruce, my hubby, who has not seen the weather up here since Feb 25th... Thinks it will be April 30th or so.

All I know is that Gill nets have to go in before the opener and I am hoping that the ice is gone because it is not fun to break thru ice when you are trying to.

Shelly

Thanks for the report. Sounds like a good spawn so far. You can tell Bruce there ain't no way that ice off starts in a month that begins with the letter A unless its August.

Have fun down at Pyramid. When is Bruce going to be back up this way. We need to get together!

Steve

Steve-

Bruce should be headed home April 20th if all goes well with his boat schedule.

Also -
I want to say thank you to Everett for making the trip up to help us with our spawn. His Uncle even drove up from Utah to help us
Thank you so much!
