The Ugly Fly

Well, last night I was reading on line and happened on another forum, which isn't important, but I saw this fly tied by Robin aka rrhyne56. I thought, I have a bunch of Ostrich in various colors (I do use it for scuds). This looked interesting, so I tied some up on a #12 scud hook (the one in the picture is much bigger but more a visual thing). I wrapped about 10 wraps of .15 lead substitute up by the eye. I then took the OLIVE Ostrich and tied in the tail. Then wrapped the body to the middle of the hook. Tied it off, then repeated to the eye. I even tried little dumbell eyes.
I took this to the pond today. I started off with my floating line and Chironomids. Did okay but it was slow and I noticed they were hitting when I slowly pulled them in.
I have always gone with unweighted flies and a sinking line to put them where I want them, SPECIALLY on weedy bottoms which the pond has.
But, I recently bout WET CELL Type II line. Now wet cell unlike density compensated, forms a belly, letting the fly float up. How does a weighted fly float up? Danged if I know, but I wasn't dragging any weeds in so I must not have been on the bottom.

I threw out the UGLY and quick little strips with an occasional long. I was catching fish EVERY cast for awhile and these were very nice fish for the pond.
BUT, I forgot my CAMERA again DANG IT! and I actually have two sitting on my dresser!
Anyway, here is Mr. Ugly and I am thinking this could be a good Damsel Imitation:

I'm guessing it won't be so ugly in the water. Very cool fly.
