| Re: Great Fly Shops-Cal.,Colorado, Montana & Wyoming*New Info Added* "Stock Charters" Blue Ribbon Flies in West Yellowstone is my all time favorite fly shop - anywhere! Craig and Jackie Mathews (owners) are some of the best people on the planet. Friendly, knowledgable and truely interested in helping you to enjoy fishing in the greater Yellowstone area. The Blue Ribbon guides are top notch, and their selection of fly tying materials is absolutely second to none - especially if you are looking for the best hair (elk, deer, carabou, etc) and bird skins (partridge, grouse, quail, etc).
If I'm driving through Last Chance, Idaho; I always take time to stop at TroutHunter's and Henry's Fork Anglers. They are both on the banks of the Henry's Fork River on opposite sides of the street from each other. If you are going to fish the Henry's Fork or any of the other fine rivers in this area of Idaho, look no further than these two shops. Rene Harrop and Mike Lawson are the deans of the Henry's Fork. Rene is one of the premier fly tiers in the entire world and has developed incredible patterns that simply work (best source of CDC in the USA). Mike has been fishing and guiding on this river for over 3 decades and is a wealth of information on how to suceed fishing one of the most technically challenging rivers in the world.
Between West Yellowstone, Montana and Last Chance, Idaho; you will find some of the finest fly shops in the entire world. Heck, it only makes sense considering where they are located.

Bruce, no problem to me, but I got to tell you, the Orvis Store I worked at was small and very friendly. They didn't let us put the coffe machine in but we had one right next door. People would come in just to chew the fat, just like the little store you talk off. Then Cabela's came to town. That and the real bad location, we had to close our doors. I do think this was just like the shops you talk of, but there was the catalog also. I know a lot of people really miss Orvis....I know I do and I didn't work there cause I had to, infact, they got my paycheck plus some of Alans every week

On the other hand, walked into others and they greet you the minute you walk through the door.

Hi Shelly,
Just back from my latest trek across Montana/Wyoming. We started at the Big Horn and ended up in Yellowstone.
Great Trip. I do not know if Madison River Outfitters in Yellowstone is a mom and pop shop but they are wonderful. Hugh selection and personal service. Sales rack is chocked full of stuff and heck it is not even the end of the season.
I am taking my girlfriend for her first time in Missoula on Monday for a week. She is now my full time fishing partner. She will even be throwing dries. Ye haww. Hey I am just trying to keep up with you and Bruce.
Jamie
Thanks for the info.

You can now add the Missoulian in Missoula Montana for a great place for flies, clothing and information. They were there as late as 7 or 8 PM a few times this last week. No hardsell and are happy to show you their latest lines of goodies with no expectation of sale. Yes, I bought plenty there.
