Re: Pyramid Lake next spring!

They are all Lahontan Cutthroats. They are the only trout that can stand the high alkalinity.

Re: Pyramid Lake next spring!

Hey Bro I lived in Reno for 15 years and fished there every winter. BIG fish and lots of them.Try fishing the area called the nets. And yes bring a latter. If you have a boat run over to Hells Canyon.Drop the downrigger to about 100 feet and give it a shot. Now this is a true story about 6 years ago I took my son out of school for a little shore fishing. We were fishing an area called Blockhouse and I get bite ,well not really bite but I did have something. So I do my best to get it in,later wished I did not. and low and behold it was a BODY of an lady,No bull shit ,As it turned out she was murdered and I just had the bad luck to find her.On somewhat of the lighter side it was not easy explaining why my high school aged son was not in school. Shit it was even in the Reno paper. Good luck .feel free to PM me if you need any info on that lake I know it well Bill

Re: Pyramid Lake next spring!

Nice...

This lake already scares the hell out of me with the ladders and all...

Ask Bruce- I am a big chicken when it comes to getting in the water- either wading - float tube- pontoon - My first time is always a total panic attack

I can do it

I was reading last night that the Lahontan Cut's are pretty aggressive and a good time to catch... They also like to eat big ugly flys
We made a real ugly one, chartreuse and purple... "Obnoxious" is what I might call it if catches fish, Bruce did not want anything to do with it

I am looking forward to this type of Cutt

Re: Pyramid Lake next spring!

Woolly worms, woolly buggers, foam beetles, big chironomids(200R in 10's and 12's!!!) .

Tied some #2 woolly worms last night, black and red, they are just lovely :Exploding turkey .
Or how about chartruese cactus chenille body and white hackle woolly worm!? In sizes 2, 4, and 6?!

I may go up there at the beginning of next week, depends on how boat maintence goes. We should be done on sat.

Re: Pyramid Lake next spring!

If your taking your own boat be well advised of the extreme winds that come up in the spring and summer afternoons. They can take a completly calm lake and turn it into steep 3' sweels that have swamped many boats over the years. The fishery ther can be pretty damn awsome.
