| Rpt: Crowley 9/2-9/5!
Headed up to Crowley on Friday at about 5pm to pre fish for the double haul ina couple weeks and get a feeling about how its going to be this year. Hit pretty much no traffic at all and got to Rock Creek at abuot 11:30 and set up camp.
Saturday:
Woke up at 5:30 and headed Crowley to fish Leighton Springs. Got there about 6 and saw that the lake is at the highest level I have seen it in like 7 years! It was pretty much full, the water was up against the cliffs on the Green Banks side. But ya Ryan, Pat, my dad and me launched at about 6:30 and fished for a total of 2 trout, 1 perch, and 1 other weird fish. It was dead as hell and I only got one hit all day and it was an 18" rainbow. I kicked and fished from Leighton Springs across the lake down the Green Banks to the Owens and back for 1 hit and one fish! Talked to like 4 other people who didnt catch nothing and got skunked the day before there too! It sucked!
Sunday:
Decided to go check out McGee Bay. Got there about 6 and launched at about 6:30 and made the 45 minute paddle to the fishing spot across the lake. Got there and bam hook-up. Land a nice 19" Brown, and this continued pretty steady all day for us. Nothing wide open at all but they were BIG fish! I caught 12 fish that day and they were one 18" rainbow, 19" brown, 21" rainbow, and 24" cutthroat! Plus a few 14-17" rainbows and browns. Ryan, my dad, and Pat all caught nice fish 18"-22" too. All the fish were down deep, way deep! We were all streaming and doing the best out of everyone out there. All the midgers and guide boats werent catching crap, and were complaining how slow fishing was, the fish were moving around to much, fish were to deep, midges arent working this year, this sucks! lol I talked to alot of them and thats all they wud say, the fish are deep and been like this all year.
Monday:
Went back to McGee Bay for a 1/2 day, and it was the same as the day before lots of nice big fish down deep and the midgers not doing anything but falling asleep and complaining. After awhile i noticed the guide boats putting out full singing line like we have and slow trolling like they were in a float tube cuz they saw us all catching fish. Pretty funny watching that and they still caught nothing! All I can say is the fish are deep, midges werent working, streamers were(brown matuka, joes/daves hoppers, hornbergs, purple, and black).
I REALLY hope it stays like this for Double Haul because this is the perfect style of fishing for me and the fish are big! So lets hope it dont change or they dont lower the lake, which I think they are going to! Ryan has a few pics so hopefully he will post them!

Alot of flies worked, I think it was more about having the right kinda line. We all have full sink type 5 line. But Joes/Daves Hoppers, hornbergs, brown matukas, purple, black, and red all worked.
