Crowley Report for Aug 7,8,9

I can't believe I was able to make it up here again so soon to give Crowley a try! This time was special because I convinced my wife to come up and give it a go. We fished together on Sunday, Aug 7, from a rental boat.

We went to McGee Bay where everyone else was and gave it a go. We stayed outside most other boats and fished in 15ft of H20. We had steady grabs and landed several nice fish. Compared to recent trips to Crowley, I'd say that we caught fewer numbers, but very good quality. Also along for the trip was our dog Abby, (My avatar), she was totally dialed in on the fish. She could tell when you were hooked up and she would get all excited until the fish was landed. Once in the net, she would bark at each one. It was Hilarious. One time, she got so worked up, she jumped in the lake while I was trying to land the fish.

I also fished monday and tuesday with my Dad on Crowley. We had a blast! We caught several brown trout and Cuthroats as well. On Tuesday, I caught my biggest ever Crowley trout. A 23" rainbow, (released). All of our fish were caught while stiil H20 nymphing.

It seems like the lake might be going through a transitions phase right now. We caught less than we did 2 weeks ago with TunaFvr, but the quality was great.

Unfortunately for float tubers, the kick to McGee is very long right now due to the high water levels. Hopefully soon, the fish will move to other parts of the lake.

p.s. TunaFvr, give me a call.

Thumbs up nice fish

23" is huge! Those rainbows are thick in body and shoulders. That deeper water is doing us well this year. I wonder if it has always been like that? For the past four years I can only remember a few times fishing as deep or deeper than 11'. Did you try that "one" fly, or did you stick to the standards?

Good going on your trip and getting your wife up there.
