Hi there,
Retired my fly fishing days when my 60$ sinking line was severely damaged in one spot and eventually broke(thanks to the sharp concrete anchors flopping around the decks on the rental boats at Mirimar)
Anyone have a fix for me to reconnect the line together and not get hung up in the guides? It broke on the bright yellow intermediate section of the line, not the black sinking portion.
Bio: "I am a registered violent offender in the State of California and I don't take kindly to threats." Nothing but our best and brightest representin us.
Just cut off the sinking portion and use it as a shooting head by connecting it to a running shooting line such as Amnesia.
OK, that's good stuff. I see they say to tie a nail knot to connect them together, is that the most slim method for casting and such? What do you recommend? And last, where in SD to pick up some Amnesia?
You might also try getting one of the woven line connectors that work like a Chinese finger trap. They're available at some of the Long-range shops (for use on heavy braid to heavy Mono connections) or you could make your own by CAREFULLY cutting the loop off a Cortland woven loop end (or whatever they're called).
Served for a 1/2 to 1" at both ends and coated with Knot-sense they're amazingly strong. You just dont want them in the head section that is usually in your casting loop. They'll create a stiffer section that won't transfer a casts energy smoothly.
Before you give up hope on the line...it is fixable. Slice it together. Cut both ends at an angle...lay one on top the other (about an inch) then lash it down with fly tying thread a dab of Zap-A Gap and coat with Knot Sense, for smoothness.
I splice lines using a needle and a leader to where you can't see the splice, but I am betting your sinking line has a core which would prevent a needle going down the middle of it.
Sink tips just don't compare to a full sinking line for me.
