Everet, I got the old Urban river that runs right by my house. I took to it last year in the search for Carpage. It is soooo fun, but with the weed growth on the banks, hard to get the fly out there.
I went Monday and hooked about 8, and right at the shore lost about 8. Realized my good old 6 lb P-Line was not cutting it with the huge carp, weeds and down tree branches.
Found some old Mirage 3X ( rated at 9.7 lb's ....figure that one out)
Attached it to my 5 1/2' furled leader along with RAINY's Carp Hex Fly and BAM! We have netted Carpage. AND NO GAS! How cool is that.

Caught 5 in 45 minutes.

I am Playing Friday Night, but Sat. morning heading up your way (The D)
till Monday.
I need slimers, I can catch Carp anyday....

And those two places make it all worth while....AWESOME CARP in those two.
Over by Shelly, I swear there is one the size of a Springer Spaniel...FULL GROWN! I want that bad boy.

The Carp and other species are about the only good thing about the Jordan River....People love to throw garbage, grocery carts, tires....dead bodies in there so it is a bit creepie.

I am going to try some snakehead flyfishing here in central Japan. They bite the deer hair frog (chartruce and black!) pretty good. I just do not land many because the burrow into the heavy weeds/lillypads, and break my 10 kg. class tippet.
I usually use an 8 wt. custom SW flyrod, with a WF floating line, and short leader.
This time I am going to use the same short leader, with a 10 kg. tippet, but use one of my blue water SW rods with a Penn International 4.5. I think the large diameter reel might give me the extra torque to pull them clear of the weeds.
Happy 4th. to everyone, wherever you may be.
