Fish the tourney out of Palm Beach aboard the Goin' Raptor. Bought two baits and began the search. The morning was pretty uneventful missing three really nice bites, but the fish were just holding onto the bait and not getting the hooks. Live bait with flat lines and kites all day.
Around 11:30 we head out deeper and put out the spread again. About 15 minutes later the back deep rod starts hauling ass. Paul is on the fish and in seconds we are getting pretty close to the knot. Get the lines in and we are chasing the fish almost on plane trying to gain line. Huge first run and we gain some line back. Takes another big run and now we are gaining. We are thinking shark and praying that it is a Wahoo for the tournament. Fish starts getting closes and the glides across the surface towards the boat. Huge WAHOO!!! My friends Dad gets an awesome gaff shot to the gills and in the boat. We go ecstatic as it is a 50-60lb Hoo.
Usually 20lb and under Wahoo when the category. We get back to the dock to have our pride put on hold as there is a monster Kingfish laying on the dock. Fish is weighed and comes out to 56.2lbs. Wow this is going to be close.
We put our fish on the scale and it slows at 47lbs. I'm running around freaking out and then the scale slowly goes up. 50, 51, 52, etc... Stop at 57.1lbs and we have the biggest fish in the tournament!!!! It holds through out the day and we take Biggest Fish and Biggest Fish Calcutta getting us $22,900 plus prizes!
It was an amazing day and can't thank my friends enough for inviting me.
My parents also won two Daiwa Tanacom Bull 1000's in the live auction!!!!! Hell yea!!
