Just one question... when you are onboard ship going from port to port (or chasing terrorists or whatever) are you allowed to throw some lines in and troll? Do you have to get the captain's permission? Does the captain need a CG six-pack license or something like that?

It really depends on the skipper. Some Captains are really into fishing and will let the crew toss out a line at every oportunity, and some don't allow it at all. I had both kinds over the years.

The pictures of me in uniform are from about 10 years ago and we were anchored up, in Bermuda. Every Captain I've had has let us fish on anchor, but only one would let us troll while we're steaming around and even then it was only on Sundays. During the week I was too busy any way...

And, as far as a CG license is concerned, I think his official command of a 9,500 ton warship supercedes a six pack ticket..
