Heading to Jacksonville

Are there any offshore opportunities in Jacksonville or St. Augustine in July? Looking for something different like bottom snapper or grouper, or kingfish or cobia. Any charter recommendations?

Headed to Jacksonville, you have my condolences. Was there for two years, two worst years of my life. The happiest day of my life was seeing welcome to Jacksonville in my rear view mirror as I head west...Only fished a couple of times, not much luck. Good luck, hope you have a better time than I did...

thanks for the info. I've never been there and will only be visiting for 1-2 weeks. Hope to get some fishing time in.

There is some Epic fishing in that area. My parents have a skiff down there and fish the intercoastal for redfish, trout, flounder, etc.

Surf fishing can be excellent as well.

There is very good cobia fishing on rays right now

Big Skin, Not sure why "fishing time" had such a bad time in Jacksonville, but to each our own. Jacksonville IS HOME for my wife and I, but are currently taking a little break with the military again over seas here in Germany. Can't wait to get back to Jax and do some catching of my own.

Jacksonville has one of the best fisheries in all of Florida. There is such a diverse opportunity to catch various species of fish, even in the same day. With that all said, if you want snapper & grouper or kingfish & cobia and want one of the VERY BEST there is to offer in our parts, contact either Dennis Young Sr or his son Dennis "Denny" Jr from Sea Dancer Charters. Here is their link: Sea Dancer Charters. Dennis runs a 26ft CC Shamrock and Denny runs either that boat or a 31ft CC Contender. They are pretty reasonable and a blast to fish with. They both have taught me so much over the years. You won't be disappointed! Denny will run out of either Jax or St Augustine if you have a preference.

Give me an email shout if any other questions & good luck with the catching!

Brien

I'm back from my trip and had a good time fishing. I ended up going out on the Mayport Princess mostly due to funding, the price was right. I checked some of the charters but a little pricey for me. Next time I might try somthing different.

But I did end up catching the species I was after, my first Red Snapper, Gag Grouper, Black Sea Bass, and Vermillion Snapper. The size limits appear to be prohibitive so all my fish were returned to the deep. I did get to observe as some large Amberjacks were caught (by others). All in all I did better than a lot of the others on the boat even though I was the newbie. The fishing style was very cool as we anchored up over reefs and wrecks. This boat is clean and the crew is good.

Thanks again to you guys and I hope I get to visit Jacksonville again.

Big Skin, Glad that you were able to get out and do a little catching. Didn't know what your funds allowed, but Capt George, "Mayport Princess" or Capt Scott, "King Neptune" (actually just got a new boat "Majesty" which I haven't seen yet)are two of the best head boat captains in our parts there in Jax. Glad that you were able to catch a few fish and even though they may have been "too small" at least you can add them to your resume of fish caught. Right now we are fighting with the "powers that be" to keep our fishery open as they are trying their best to close us down for quite some time.

Our fishing club, Jacksonville Offshore Sports Fishing Club, along with support from the Jax Reef Research Team, Coast Guard, the city of Jax, as well as lots of volunteers were able to finally sink another artificial reef - first one in quite some time due to the "political games." Here is a link to the sinking: http://sinkthespike.com/. Hopefully we can fight and win our battle with the SAMFMC to keep our oceans open for fishing.

Next time you may be in the area, feel free to drop me a note and will see about changing that resume to catching "fish of a lifetime."

Till then, tight lines and screaming drags....
Brien

If your ever in the area again look up endless summer charters in St Augustine request captain billy unreal fishermen there located at the Conch House marina. I promise you will not regret it and a suggestion. I would try to do a trip in April for Dolphin aka dorado, mahi. One of the best bites I've ever seen they run thru the stream really thick late march to early may.

All the Best
