Socal Navy boy represents BD.

My kid Brother is stationed in Pensicola Florida at the Navy Air Station. I recently wrapped a 2 peice 20# rig for his Saltist 20h and sent that out with some Bloody decks Swag and a 10# spinning set up.
He calls me 3 times yesterday to tell me how fishing os going. They have a large peir that is open to fishing on occasion. He killed it yesterday. 2 types of grouper (from the peir!) and Sheepshead (lookslike a Barred Surfperch), Red Snapper and a couple of nice Redfish. He is so fired up.
He says the Red fish are strong and the grouper were very tough pound for pound. They are not Yellow tail tough but when is the last time you caught a Yellow off of a peir?!
Most importantly, sporting the new Bloody Decks Tuna hat! Go Navy!

Thanks. He goes by hooraAD on here. If you think of it shoot him a message with some good local info. I'm sure he would be stoked.
He is trying some west coast style stuff as well. I sent him some Tady "c" jigs. He really wants to ding a red or Cobia on a surface iron.
Sounds like most his catches have been on shrimp and cut bait so far. What did you use in the skinny water?

The light iron would be the bomb if he could get out to the oil rigs or behind the shrimpers when they're dumping bycatch. The cobia, kings (king mackerel), black fin, etc will hit that lure. I don't think it would do so well for redfish. Gold spoons kill redfish like it's cool. Wadefishing is by far the most enjoyable fishing in the intercoastal Gulf waters. A Curado 200 on an 8-12#, 7ft, "popping rod" (extra fast action) is the ticket. I just load the reel with 30# spectra and a 4' fluorocarbon shock leader.

Weedless spoons for the reds. Pumpkinseed and chartreuse paddletails on a eighth or quarter oz (chartruese) jighead worked vertically in the flats is great for reds and speckled trout. Black/chartreuse paddletails under a moon for night wade fishing is killer. Softbodied lures by Corkie, Tsunami, are a slow sinking, twitchbait that works well for reds and trout. They sink 6" per second of drop so you can work them below the surface in the flats without getting into the weeds. I stick to pumpkinseed and chartruese...

If your brother parks near the back gate past the O'club and the museum, there is a large portable "easyup" that security uses to inspect tractor trailers. Right there is a path along a broken fenceline that runs down to the water. I think it's called trout cove or something like that. It's a huge shallow, grassy flat full of trout and reds. You can fish all day and night without seeing another human being. This time of year, get a pair of waders. PM if you need any additional information. Good luck, take a stringer.

No shit! That poor kid is damn near as ugly as I am isn't he!! haha!! Put about 30lbs on him and make the red half that size and I think I have the identical picture here somewhere!! Haha!!

Nice fish! Both of those grouper are gags btw. Same fish. They're in breeding right now all over both coasts of FL.
