Talked to him about half an hour just now. He is still fired up. BIg thanks to coryellk for the inside info.
The kid is coming home for 10 days in a couple of weeks. We will hit it local hard for that time. Maybe a 3/4 day or 2 and a bunch of land based and ninja shit. Anyone gotta weekday sled to hook him up let me know, I'll pay his fuel. I am getting into busy season so it hard for me to get away. He is a great kid and lives to fish.
As far as the grouper. I only posted the gags, he caught a couple of red grouper as well.
And Cuda, sorry, he's my bro, no ass kissing needed .
Smudge, you Norwegian? Ya never know ?

Its kinda funny I stumbled on this thread, I too am from so cal, representing on the NAS pensacola piers. Good fishing out here with shrimp, and nice squid if you get some. You can get some good bites with a ladyfish if you catch one of those too, for the reds. Real bloody and oily.

Go wade fishing with your bass gear south of the back gate. There's miles of grass flats there. There's plenty of speckled trout and redfish waiting for your lure to cruise over their hiding place.

I heard that if you went wading, you would need a license. What does a fishing license in fl cost?...and what kind of lure are you using?

You can either read the regs or just go get a license. Flash that "little green home run hitter" and you'll likely get a resident license fee.
Reds LOVE gold spoons. That said, soft plastics on jig heads, topwaters, spinners, weedless plastics... they'll all work on reds, specs, and flounder. I'm partial to chartreuse tails on pumpkinseed shad imitators. 4 or 5" is what I like. Work them vertically up and down as the grass allows. Your best bet is to go to a couple tackle stores and ask them. If you really want to cut your learning curve in half, get a couple guided trips and pick those guys brains. You'll be taking limits back to your Q-room in no time. Good luck. Thanks for standing on the wall.

That's good for pier fishing. The only thing we catch here off the pier is bait.
