Re: squid fishing

They,ve been knocking the hell out of them out by the barberpole out of Dana, off Lajolla and five mile out of Angels Gate LA toward the Westend of Catalina as of yesterday. They went nuts during the day light at about 3;30pm on Sat in the Channel between LA and Cat ISLE. Typically the bite is best a night and if you can get some light in and on the water you can attract the bastards to the boat and keep them there. But they do go off during the day as well. Get some of those bigass squid jigs, and have at them.. I suggest you wear safty glasses as its possible to pull the jigs out of the squid and send them flying at you or others. That's why I suggested using squid jigs over normal deep jigs or iron. It's a real bitch pulling treble hooks out of eyeballs. GOODLUCK. When you get on the water get on CH 72 and ask if anyone has seen the giant squid. For some reason ALOT of guys give this info out whereas they wont tell you where to get a fin fish.

Re: squid fishing

Go straight off Huntington Beach pier until your depth guage loses the bottom. You will catch squid all night. Make sure you get good squid jigs that atr 12oz plus. When you gaff the squid, hold them over the back until they spray their ink and then pull them aboard. Good Luck.

Is there anywhere you can catch the little guys around the Point Loma area without having to go all the way up to La Jolla? My Dad has a little squid jig and a floating light and we've been wondering where we could go within short proximity of the PL Kelp or SD Bay to jig up squid and what time of year?
