Dana Kelp

A few times I have fished out of La Jolla, off the kelp beds and was wondering if there are any similar kelp beds (probably much smaller?) around Dana Point area? I have access to a 17' whaler in Dana and was just looking to pull on some calis or cuda...play your cards right and you could get yourself a free ride as a fishing guide(hint, hint...!).... Thanks in advance!

Re: Dana Kelp

off the head of the point there is a good amount of kelp as well as off san mateo. Also a few reefs and high spots. Yesterday I fished the breakwall for an hour for a handful of bass. The red tide is clearing so fishing conditions and counts should improve.

Roger that! See Avatar. These kids clean up often on the point. Kelp bed is right off the point and up to Laguna. Good luck, and if you see a skiff dead in the water, please come over with that "free ride" and drag us in.
