which rod?

I am looking to buy a rod for the up coming Yellowtail season. I will be going a private boat and maybe some 3/4 day trips out of San Diego. My target is Yellowtail. I am getting an Avet MXL or MXJ, havent decided yet. I was looking at the 8' seeker rods to throw irons with. Would i be able to YO-Yo with that rod as well? Im looking for something to yo-yo and throw tadys with. The seeker I looked at was rated 15-40#. Any help would be appreciated.

a perfect rod for the avet mxj/mxl would be the calstar 800m

Re: which rod?

You were looking at a 270H-8? Good choice for 25#. An SD-8 or a G6480 would be stouter for irons and bigger bait with 30#. All will handle Yellowtail and Albies.

Re: which rod?

Shimano Teramar TMC80H 20-40#

9' is nice if you are on a bigger boat, but from a small PB, 8' is usually the longest you want to use.

I've got the Teramar TMC80H matched up to a Saltist 30TH, IMO this is a good Yellowtail setup that doesn't break the bank.

I would agree with this as long as you aren't afraid to pull. this rod isnt meant to be toy'd with. you can really rip the lips off fish with this thing. For local yellows, i like seeker 858 (might kick your ass) or a 270-8h

i wouldnt recommend an avet for throwing surface iron on an 8ft rod...thats just silly. and get a reel you know how to use, too many people buy avets and ask me to set their drags. thats just my opinion tho.

800m like said above might be right up your alley
