Re: Tuna Poppers

I just posted something about jigs from this website, but they have some good looking poppers too. We use them all the time in the Gulf, especially at night.

Try here. I just bought a couple for the upcoming season. I've seen these poppers in person and they are made really well. Now i just have to wait to see if they'll catch fish!!!

Steve, i'm not sure if Randy is going to have a booth at FHS. You might want to give him a call to make sure.

Re: Tuna Poppers

Hey y'all...New here, Andre is the name, live down in Cape Town, South Africa.... Been lurking here a bit and enjoying the site, but saw this thread and thought y'all might enjoy these shots....

Mate of mine Grant, with a YF he got at the end of October last year, less than a mile off Cape Point

72 Kilos on Stand Up Casting Tackle, Power Pro Braid and a Wayne StanleyTop Water Plug ( Locally manufactured )

Grant runs a Marine Coordination Company facilitating all forms of Marine What not for the Film and Movie industry down here and fishes off a 24 ft Zodiac with a tower platform on the T-Top.
All sight fishing, all top water.... Fun shit!

Peace from the South

Thanks.... I've looked around and can't find a pic right now, but I'll shoot some and post em up for ya...

SUPER simple plug..... Chisel Nose shape, rectangle profile in cross section and made out of a UHMW Poly..... cheap, strong and catches fish.... sounds good to me!!!

Re: Tuna Poppers

Tady 45, electric tape around the top ring to keep it on the surface. Cast as far as you can and put the reel in gear just before the jig hits the water, keep the tip high and wind like an SOB. Use at least an 8' rod with a high speed reel, and keep the jig skipping on top. Learned to fish that way on my first long range trip back in 89 at Roca Partida on the 105.

Surface cruisers hadn't been introduced yet, the crew sight fished boiling Yellow Fin Tuna during the mid day lull. Worked like a charm. Used to see big fish blow out on the iron, and you would be happy if the bigger model missed, otherwise it was a butt kicker for sure.
