What colors to use

My friend has just introduced me to sportfishing this last summer and i have since fallen in love with it. I visited las vegas recently and had to stop by the bass pro shop there. i spent a lot of money on some good irons and yo-yo irons. some p-line and a few other lures. but being short on cash and new to this sport, i was wondering if u could tel me wat colors work best in wat situations and wat kind of lures to pick up. i cant just go and by the ones i think ill work best, cause i dont have much money to spare. just wandering wat kind and color to buy to get the best odds of catching a fish.

thanks

Best thing to do is go to your local tackle store(noahs since your in san diego) ask the guys there where you want to fish. what kind of fish you are after and they will point you in the right direction.

Re: What colors to use

Cant go wrong with some blue & White, Chrome, Chrome and blue. 6xJr size is good for just about everything. Maybe some smaller blue and white jigs for Bonito and Barracuda fishing. That should get you started. If you are new to sportfishing a good practice rule is to always fish iron when barracuda fishing. Its a good way to get practice throwing iron. Pay attention, look over your shoulder and see your jig. Dont worry, you wont miss the water. Just make sure not to hook anyone.

Yellowtail go with the painted ones ( scrambled egg, birdshit, blue and white) Tuna fish some type of chrome. I think action makes for more bites then color especially with surface iron. If the jig swims the color won't matter with the yellows and calicos

Re: What colors to use

Agreed, i think color matters very very little. Next time you get into a good bite throw out a weird color and see if you get bit. I have tried a few times and gotten yellows on weird colors and shapes (a silver bannana shaped lure i have used comes to mind) Pace is probally going to make as much of a difference as anything else. I use birdshit/scrambled 80% of the time for yellows, sometimes a yellow and green.
