I may have to remember that trick for fishing next time. Totally dick but a good idea. The biggest problem is most people have no idea what a dive flag is and for some reason it seems to be a magnet for stupid boat operators......

Lack of paddy ettiquet is how I was named Az.monkey. Some Assmonkey parked on a paddy that was producing a steady pick for about 20 or so boats ( all invited by the finder ) and this Assmonkey crashes the party and parks on top of it . I let go with both barrels than resorted to the radio as he shut off the bite in an instant and tossed the salad as he sped away slap:

Seadawg and others- Thanks for your info- spent about a hr reading thru your info and then ran out the next day for a try...

Success on the backside of the SCI about 4 miles out from Yellow Banks... 12 lbs DoDo on our first paddy and tons of fun after that. Worked about 100 yrds out and made passes around until we where on top and jigging. Every paddy we hit w/ success except when seals where on them.

Re: Paddy Etiquette 101 c/o dshep75

I understand the thought behind flying a dive flag to detour other anglers who may shut off the bite, but there is a whole concept here that isn't being seen. On here alone, 20+ people have seen and recieved the idea the people may be bluffing a diver. They come up on a patty flying a flag and think.... "these assholes are pulling the wool over everyone's eyes" The driver heads over there more concerned at this point about the fish, because he assumes there is really no diver until he witnesses a crimson hue throughout the water and a floating body. Come on guys... If you got a diver then fly a flag. If you don't then find another way to stake claim. Hail the boat by radio and ask them to leave... It's that easy.

Really good info, restoring a boat to hit up patties next summer. Definetly will keep these comments in mind.

Re: Paddy Etiquette 101 c/o dshep75

Anyone who has ever seen an active yellow or dodo feed has to realize one thing, they can close the distance fast! they don't sneak up and eat, they charge in and light it up!!! the paddy is a source of food for them however, they don't sit there and wait. unlike some boats i've seen they are smart. they hit the paddy and move off, when the bait has reassembled they move in again and move off fast. if you think that after your 15 or 20 mins. on a patty all the fish that are using that patty have been caught, think again, they have just moved off. however, they are opertunistic feeders. sometimes they move off 1/4 mile, the dodo's seem to stay up and the yellow's seem to want to go down. so, fishing right on top of the paddy does three things. #1 it keeps the bait in the paddy, tucked in tight (safe) and that's where your chum will go #2 it keeps the BIG fish out in the south 40 or down in the deeps. #3 you get corn holed in the kelp. so if there is a boat right on the paddy you have a gift in that the better (bigger) fish generaly are away or deep. take advantage of the current and wind and put yourself on a drift that takes you about 150 yards off the paddy. then, you wont be an asshole and you'll catch better fish! if you come up on a virgin paddy do the same only set your drift closer. and if you do hook a dodo away from the paddy try keeping it in the water for a moment ( if it's small keep it on the line, if it's big gaff it and hold it). the pulse of the fish will keep others around, while the fish is in the water start chumming hard, you'll be amazed at the frenzy you start, as the bait has no paddy to run to!!!!!! the diver flag thing is just a asshole idea all the way around! unless your a paddy fag! if that's the case do everybody a favor and buy your fish at the market! as far as everybody else, i'll see you on the water and we'll knock the shit out of them together! respect me, I'll respect you, help me, I'll help you, fuck with me, I'll fuck with you, see you on VHF72. enough said!
