Catching/keeping Dorado

Excellent Dorado activity out there, not always easy to keep'em. Anyone with suggestions, advice to minimize losing some of these pups, chewing, chafing line. We are using flourocarbon leaders!!
Thanks

Loosen up the drag. It will take more finesse but with the acrobatics that dorado are known for, most are lost when jumping.

DODO'S throw circle hooks better than nolan ryan threw a base ball. J hooks only. Use 40 or 50 pound fluoro (they are not all that smart or shy) put the hook in there ass (let them eat for a long time) and put the hammer down. Bow to the fish when it jumps like a tarpon angler. That should help. Best of luck.

Throwing circle hooks? Seriously?

Circles are your best bet to keep them from chewing though your line.

The guys on the east coast fish big j hooks but they are also fishing heavy bite leaders when the dodos are around (80-100lb mono/fluoro).

The only time I've lost dorado is when I'm using J hooks and they bite through the mono.

Circle hook all the way! I have never had a fish "throw" a circle hook? When its set properly in the corner its pretty tough for a fish to throw a hook. I fished J hooks for 40 years and have since switched to circles and will never go back. The hook to deck ratio has greatly increased.

i just use j hooks with straight 30 pound, and pull the stupid things in. they aren't all that strong (although, very skilled at getting off the hook). pull on them and they should come to the boat

VMC circles all the way! One of the best kept secrets of the hook world.

Yes J hooks only. Maybe I should have said spit the hook. Ask any experienced long range deck hand. Besides if you fish 40 or 50 pound leader and you are getting chewed threw its angler error. Do Do fishing is not a high skill event in the world of fishing.
