It does everything that has been mentioned but for me its security. After another passenger lost several reels on a trip I changed out my phillips and standered screw heads to ones similar to the headlight screws that take a special bit. If you really want to steal them good luck if you dont have the right bit. I have several back up bits just in case I loose one.

What kind of scumbag steals reels on cattle boats? I never thought I had to secure my reel for security reasons. Messed up place we live in.

I did see an older Avet footing break this weekend. Lucky for this guy the fish was gaffed and the reel fell on the deck and not overboard.
