setting your sounder for meter marks

I have a raymarine c-80, and I am good at reading the bottom, but the meter marks I dont seem to recieve well because i have been in heavy bites and did not notice meter marks. When off shore what range do you set your sounder for 200ft? 400 ft? is there something else i can set to focus on the top part of the water. Any help welcome..

I thought you were giving a 101, I am not sure I believe it's the gain. You may have to increase the gain, I have had the same problem and I am still working shit out. I am all ears if there is someone who can answer this question....

You will be adjusting the gain all day on munal (more/ Less), or you can use auto gain. I also run my "A" scope full time.

I concur. On manual I'm playing with mine all day. I don't care for the Auto as it seems to scan to rapidly and misses some detail. (If that makes sense)
The manual is cool because it will let you adjust the Gain to what your looking for. Kinda like adjusting the brilliance/detail on a computer monitor.

Gain for me is a mystery. however there should be a zome of some sort that will allow you to focus in on certin patchs of water that you want to be looking at vis seeing the whole pitcure or just the bottom.

Set your gain so you are getting a double reading of the bottom. So if you are in 60ft, you will have another bottom reading at 120. Gain is your friend, don't be scared. Take everything off auto. Turn your noise limiter off. Turn your fish symbol thing OFF. Anything that will limit what you see on your screen should be turned off. Use A-scope.

Fish with some one that has been using the same unit you have for a long time.

Thanks for the input and help. I have been adjusting the range manually to show 0-200 ft. I may open that up to 4oo ft. I do use the split screen, I will have to play with the gaine a little, havent done that at all...
