Rubberband on the right is a single pass cat's paw. Make 4 more passes through and it ends up looking like the one on the left. The purpose of the additional passes is to add grip so the weight does not slip down the leader. Use the free loop of the band to go through the eye and around the entire weight to create another cat's paw on the weight and you're done. The order is important as it's more difficult to pass a weight 5x through the cat's paw on the leader.

VERY similar to the setup Fred Archer has been teaching people to make for years in his shark books. Meltons has had the rig, which I think they call the "Archer Special" and is for sale in their catalogue. Or you can rig it yourself. There are some detailed drawings of shark rigs on his board, and in his books.

If anyone wants to make their own I would suggest investing in a good swager (bench swager is the best, hand swager will work), and some chafing gear... Combined they make for better connections than what are shown above.

Swaging is fast and easy. Remember to burn the tag end of the line with a lighter.

Below are some examples...
Hook on the left was done with hand swager, the rest with a bench tool. Chafe tubing allows circle hook to swing freely. The Hays Hook on the right is stiff rigged.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the offshore loop and the crimp job in the pic by Big T..

just honest observation..the crimp and leader on the hays hook..it's way too tight on the eye..use some silicone self bonding tape if your trying to stiffy it up.

Good eye CG, that was something I threw together last minute for the post with some scrap chafing gear. Below is a picture of a "real" one.

Didnt say there was anything wrong with the offshore loop, just that it can be done a cleaner way.

As for the crimp job well... Ive seen better...
