Build a LR Tackle Box

I'm looking to build myself a long range tackle box to fit a specific spot on the RP. I've got size requirements that will make it a little narrower than most.

couple of questions I have:
1. What wood do you prefer?
2. how do you join the sides of the box?
3. What do you finish the box with (ie: polyurethane)
4. How do you finish the inside of the box?
5. Any tricks to Jig/Iron holders?
6. Where do you buy your stainless steel?
7. Any other tricks or things to note?

Unfortunately I do not have a table saw , but do have a Nice Grizzly band saw and router, router table, and numerous other power tools. I'm only doing this for personal use and not for sale. Feel free to PM or email me at bfraser@loanlink.com if you'd like.

McMaster-Carr is the place for your stainless bits & pieces. And if you search Mayo on this board you will see he builds some fine boxes. He may be able to point you in the right direction.

I had this one made several years ago from a retired firefighter who had quite the wood shop in his garage. Made from teak and formica counter top material with all stainless hardware. Lift out box with Shimano tackle trays that are interchangable depending on what type of trip I am fishing. Plenty of hook tie off points as well as some rings between the rocket launchers that I hang extra Raider jigs from for quick access during wahoo bites. Box also sits on skids so it is up off the deck allowing water to flow underneath. Stainless corner protectors keep deck hoses dragged across the box from peeling the laminate off.

I paid $600 for it and we had three made at the same time (my buddies wanted one too).

Here is a couple of pics...

Ask Cuda for a picture of the Coffin tackle box he has. It only takes 2 people to move it, the box holds 200 jigs, 195 heavy's and 5 surface, Ron likes to YoYo.

Not at all....or not really, however I personally do as I want it to go into a specific spot on the RP which is to the left of the stairway.

Thanks for the e-mail Buona!
