Tips for filling your reels

Here are some tips for the poor mans line winder

Fill a 5 gallon bucket 1/2 way up

place filler spool in water

make sure spool floats horizontal

If spool does not float horizantal empty some water out so the spool is just touching the bottom of the bucket.

Even though there is tension on the spool remember to pinch the line with your fingers to allow for a tight wrap on the reel... the water is basiclly there to keep the spool from overrunning

And there ya go fresh line with out haveing to buy you buddy a beer to hold the spool

Hear of Cuda?

The owner Hugh at Pacific Coast bait and tackle says they've been using Cuda (I'd never heard of it until today) on their rigs. Have you heard of this one yet? I had Ande on my Penn Intl and it seemed to have lots of memory so I ripped it all of after a couple trips and had Pac Coast B&T put on this new stuff.

And Tommy at Tackle Town swears by Ande. Claims you should change out your line often if your fishing on a consistant basis. That's why I like to have spectra on the bottom with a 100yds of mono on top. Doesn't cost an arm or leg to change the top shot out frequently and it isn't there long enough to develop memory. Thanks Brandon for the tip.

Ive heard mixed responses on this stuff. In the sunlight it sticks out like a sore thumb. Reminds me of that Flourescent blue/clear stuff that many line manufacturers have: stren, berkley, etc. Some told me they landed albies with it. Not to bag on you or anytnig but I often find it in the clearance bins.

Jason, the Yo Zuri Hybrid comes in clear and smoke. I greatly prefer the clear and have used it on everything from Calicos to Yellowtail without fail. The smoke on the otherhand is very brittle in the 10 lb and under catagories.

A pencil thru the spool held between the toes gives you an extra beer also ............................... I like the technic though .

Thanks for sharing

Michael

PS . P-Line is the best . But who can afford changing it out as often as you need to . If line is rinsed real good and kept away from the sunlight it will last quite a few trips . I usually buy cheaper line and change it out much more frequently . Berkley Big Game . You can't go wrong

Re: Tips for filling your reels

is there a diifference how the line comes off the spool? label side up or down? or how about reeling the line on with the pencil through the spool? Does the line coming off the bottom or over the top of the filler spool make a difference? difference meaning line twist ofcourse!!!! I HATE THAT SHIT!!!!!!

ps. I LOVE SPRECTRA WITH A TOP SHOT. I can change out high dollar mono often. or the cheap stuff. I just dig having fresh line. Could be a problem

Re: Tips for filling your reels

You need to make sure the line is coming over the top from the filler spool when filling your reels.
