WHY? storage of hooks.

On some 1 1/2 to 2 day boats when fishing for albies, I've seen a couple of people store their thin wire hooks, in a plastic container with flour or a fine white powder that looks like flour. I just wanted to know if this is the proper way to store them.
Thanks

Did they have a razor blade and a small mirror stored with them also?

If you don't want them to rust. Are you sure it was not Coke?

Its baking soda, and it works. Keeps the rust off.

That and rice as well. Un-cooked. Works just as good.

Coke is cool too.....

Holla

Stop being a cheap ass and fucking toss the hooks. I never use them after a trip they go over the rail after every outing.

baby powder works great to keep them dry in your tackle box

I toss the ones I USE if they are cheap mustad's but unused hooks will rust in your tackle box if the box is open in the salt air or you even touch them with your hands when they are wet.

Rusted/not rotten hooks are fine as long as they are sharp, once buried a rough textured hook will almost never slip.

rusty musty's are the way to go. i don't fish fancy designer hooks as i always pull the hook and always watch people pull hooks while fighting fish. that little barb on the ringed flyliners just doesn't hold as good. i stick with good old mustad or the lazer sharps by eagle claw. albies don't need anything fancy. mustads have been killing fish for a long time

I spray just a sot of WD-40 in my tackle boxes before putting the hooks in. No more rust...
