Casting a TLD 25

I am considering getting a TLD 25 to use as a 30-40lb rig. Does anybody know if these are any good at casting a sardine away from the boat? I like the lever drag and don't have the $$$$ for a gold reel.

Re: Casting a TLD 25

they work fine for me. I have (4) of them, but now I buy AVETS. They cast easier and the birds nests are even better (due to the great freespool)!

Re: Casting a TLD 25

I can't cast mine very far. I agree with Aaron, my Avet is way more cast-friendly. That said, I do like my TLD 25, 20 and 15, but I don't cast far w/ the 25 - nor do I try really. If I want the bait away from the boat, I'll usually butt hook it rather than fling it out there......Plus, I don't fish bait fish my 25 that much.

For what its worth.....$.02

Daiwa Sealine is a much better casting reel.

Re: Casting a TLD 25

In considering all the choices for casting I'm afraid the TLD25 would not come to mind. But then again, if you're fishing large baits, it might be OK. For me, many other smaller reels come to mind. I guess to me the TLD25 always has represented a good choice for a trolling reel, maybe for 50 lb?
