Progear Oceanus 30

Hi there,

i m new to this forum and new to fishing as well. i m deciding to buy a reel for ironing for yellowtail. I m considering Progear Oceanus 30 but have heard about the reel foot problem. I just need a comment about this reel esp comparing it to 870H or 665H in term of drag, casting, and weight

cheers,

Ben

Re: Progear Oceanus 30

i love pro gears but would not fish an oceanus for iron. too heavy and not a fan of lever drags for jig fishing, but thats just my preference. that reel is bitchin for other purposes tho

Re: Progear Oceanus 30

Are you using it for surface iron or YoYo fishing? If you are a Pro Gear fan you should consider the Albacore Special 540 for these applications. A bulletproof reel with the proper gear ratio for yellowtail fishing applications. More detail of how you plan to fish for your yellowtail would help with additional advice.

Re: Progear Oceanus 30

Is it the new one or the first release. The new one is just as much as accurate. First release at charkbait foe 229. Looks very good on the inside. I am interested to see what you guys have to say. Any one got line wet with it yet?

Probably not my first or second choice for surface Iron but it might make for a nice bait reel.

It is actually a pretty light reel. I have one and its great for casting the surface plug.

Re: Progear Oceanus 30

Whats up Gary. Are you going on the Turdroller charter?

What about the memorial day?

As far as the reel I dont doubt it can be used for jigs but still not a top choice in my opinion.

Re: Progear Oceanus 30

i have an oceannus, and it would work pretty good for the yo-yo but not for light irons. you could throw irons no problem but you arms would be tired after a few casts. havnt had any problems with mine.

Re: Progear Oceanus 30

So what do u guys use for iron? frankly , i never cast iron before but somehow i feel that star-drag reel would cast easier.

Re: Progear Oceanus 30

With the state of Pro Gear's business, might want to wait before buying.
