Anybody seen these yet or tried one? Thinking of buying on line but a liitle far to return if they are crap. I think this is their first lever drag. Their answer to a Torsa maybe? Not sure how big a 30 is. Comparable to an Avet MX or LX in size? http://www.charkbait.com/cs/images/r..._ld1_small.jpg |

Checked these out at the Fred Hall Show and they were impressive. One piece frame, huge, smooth drags, convertible gear ratios, good capacity and all aluminum constuction. For this much reel the price is right. All my other Pro Gears have been awesome and I expect nothing but good things from this reel.

I have several pro gears. They are solid reels. Wouldn't expect anything less from this one.

Ive fished a Pro-Gear once and really liked it. Seeing as it is their first lever drag reel though, I would wait a while until they work out the inevitable little problems with it. Just my opinion.

It's rated at 300 of 30# izor so that'd put it between a JX and LX. Probably the width of the JX or a little narrower. PG's tend to be a little bigger in diameter and narrower than equivalent reels. My 540 holds the same line as a Trn 30 yet is the width of a Trn 20. My 545 holds the same line as a Trn 20 yet is the width of a Trn 16.

I was over at the Progear shop and talked to the owner about the reel--they've been field testing the reel for a year before they released it last week. Its really lite weight--has about 14lbs drag at strike and 24 or so on full.

Misuse: That's sure is some avatar you've got there. Wrong, and strangely distrubing mind you but a nice party trick none-the-less. I could see that coming out on about day 4 of a charter with the boys. Hows the fishing up there at the moment?
Things are really staring to go off big time down here in NZ for the inshore yellowtail and as summer kicks in the yellowskins should show up. Time to sharpen the gaff. Time for some blood.

picked one up today, gonna' use it next weekend in Mex, so I'll report when I get back. Looks to be a great little reel, it fits my hands better than an Avet, it kinda' has a Torsa feel to it, free spool is nice and the clamp is a real nice little unit. So we'll see what happens

I've heard that progrears are very high maintenance reels?
But I've never fished one
Is this true?
