| Pro Gear CS 625 vs Daiwa Saltist 40
Looking for a reel to cast top water lures to 100 lb Yellow Fin Tuna here in Texas. Should be similar to a reel you guys would use for throwing wahoo bombs or free lining live baits out to bigger fish there in California/Mex.
I can't seem to find any drag or line cap specs on the Pro Gear 625. The one I'm looking at is the 5:1 ratio.
Thanks

So, how much drag do you need from the reel? Can you get by with a single speed or do you want the 2 speed?

Only need a single speed. Looking for 25+ lbs of drag. Going to use 80# spectra and the rod is rated 60-80# and designed for throwing poppers to tuna.

of those choices, get the Pro Gear...parts are a little harder to find now a days, but a little birdie told me that Pro Gear should be up and running soon (hopefully that birdie was right).
Saltists are nice, the but CS reels are tanks

I don't think either of those reels are going to like to fish 25#'s of drag.
I have several saltists and pro-gears.
I think the most you can get out of a saltist (consistently) is about 15#'s.
The Daiwa online manual says 20-22#'s for the 40 size but, I think it would catch on fire.
I destroyed the stock gears on a PG 454 trying to fish about 15-18#'s.
I'd say Avet HX Raptor

The 25#'s will not be constant, only when absolutely necessary around rigs or right off the bottom for aj's. I just got a very clean looking PG CS625 for $140. I'll probably call Ken's Custom Reels to get the drags or anything else I need to upgrade.

$140, that's a good deal.
I have the 501 and 551's and I don't know of a better star drag

I had the same pro gear your looking at. I would not try & kill something that big unless I had a lot of time on my hands. If I had to use a single speed I would use a Baja HN or Saltiga 40. I have both reels the HN I feel has better drags when you button them down hard but the Saltiga is as smooth as my wifes butt.

Saltists are nice, the but CS reels are tanks | from what i have been hearing the rumors are getting close to becoming reality.
but of the two reels in question would rather have the CS, it will meet your drag needs all out.
