You can read more about the Talica here:

I haven't fished a raptor yet but I am very impressed with the Talica so far.

I would actually agree with you. Nobody really NEEDS a two speed for 20-40 set-ups, but they are a cool offering. I've caught my biggest fish (40 lb bluefin) on a single speed Oceanus 30 and if the single speed is sized right with the proper line size, then there isn't a problem getting fish in.

I guess the main reason the small two-speeds are cool is because they reduce weight (compared to a larger single speed) and take up less room in my hand(more comfortable to fish). They also have some extra cranking power in the lower gear in case I get lucky and hook up something larger than expected.

I'm a novice tackle hoe as well so this is one more thing I want to add to my quiver. This is going to be my lightest live-bait set-up because of the blanks I used and how I'm building the rod, so the small two speed just helps me make it strong in addition to not weighing much. When loaded with 50 lb spectra I'll have a very capable set-up with plenty of strength and line capacity.

Just my $0.02

I got the purple SX-Raptor. What a sweet reel. I just bought an LX-2Sp for my brother about a month ago and I was playing with the reels side by side. The Raptor is very nice in the way that you can tighten down the drag quite a bit before you feel any of it at the handle. With the LX, I started to feel it at the handle quite a bit earlier. It's not really a big problem for me, it's just amazing how much drag can come from that small reel and not have any binding on the handle. I filled it with 50 spectra so I can use 30 or 40 top shot, most likely 40. I can't wait to get out there and actually use it for what it was meant for, rather than it just looking pretty in the house.

I have a Talica 16II matched to a JM500 rod. I fish 80lb Whiplash pro on it and managed to squeeze 550 measured meters onto it. Its the first two speed I have used for Mechanical jigging. Being able to turn fish earlier and easier in a street fight with Yellowtail Kingfish is an advantage
