Try Vaseline, I have used it with good effect, when stripped down the reel drum was like new.

Corrosion X. Wipe on, wait 1 hr, wipe off. It was MADE to prevent corrosion, Chapstick was not.

What about KY Jelly?

No, seriously, another way to go is with a good Carnuba Wax or a product called Boeshield.

I use Boeshield T-9. It sprays on thin, but gets 'waxier' over time. I figured Boeing knows a thing or two about corrosion and aircraft grade aluminum? I might be wrong.

Additionally, instead of smearing Cal's on the inside of the sideplates, I use a little T-9 sprayed on a toothbrush. It makes future cleanings MUCH easier.

I got mine from Ken's in Oceanside. It's right off the 5, next to Monterrey Bay Cannery in O-side harbor.

In that case I wouldn't. No disrespect intended but I would not trust my tackle to chapstick. It may work. However, if it doesn't you pay the cost. Use something designed for the task. Just my thoughts. Good luck with whatever you decide.
