For fishing 50-60 pound topshots for the species you mention, the Penn International 16VSX is a good choice.
Depending on how long a topshot you prefer, it holds from 500 to 650 yards of 80-pound spectra, plus a topshot ranging from 100 yards down to 15 feet of 50/60 mono or fluoro.
It handles the majority of billfish-related trolling even down in the East Cape, handling blue marlin up to 300 pounds or so, while still being reasonably sporting for striped marlin, sailfish and the occasional spearfish or hatchet marlin.
It will also handle pretty much any tuna that crosses into California waters, although it should not be considered a dedicated "cow" reel for 200-plus pounders.
The spool weight [line capacity] prevents it from being able to really zing a live mackerel at a sleeping striper, but it is an excellent "drop back" bait reel for marlin.
It has excellent freespool for its line capacity, and as long as you remember to de-grease the bearings and add Speed-X [or your favorite other], it does an excellent job of the "long soak" and getting a live sardine "way out there" at Guadalupe or Alijos.
Puts out 28 pounds of drag at "strike", and into the hgih 30's at "full", the best part is when you shift into "low" it's way down at 1.7 to 1, and can really pull on a big shark or whatever.
