Reel Question About Left Hand/Right Hand

I've always used a right hand reel. My left is used to support the rod and guide the line evenly on the reel. For the first time in my life I started using a reel with a line guide (Revo). Now I got nothing to do with my left hand and I feel weird. I've noticed that I don't like the right hand reel with the line winder because I found out that I can work the bait better with the pole in my right hand. So, I'm buying a left hand reel. Normal?

Yup you're normal. When I break out the spinning gear to jig or throw poppers I reel with my left hand. I get better control of the fishing rod with my right hand.

I've thought about switching my light bass gear over to left hand retrieve also.

I do the same. I'm right-handed but winding left is just more comfortable to me.

Can't even J/O with my left hand. But fish all my levelwinds lefty.
I attribute it to learning to fish trout/salmon and steelhead on rivers.. control the cast and drift with right hand .. reel with the left.

Anything over 20/25# is right hand.

I reel with my right hand for everything...with conventional reels I feed the line on with my left, and reel right...I thought I was normal

Unlike Surfdoc, I can get the job done with the left and the right hand. In fact it's really broken up in periods like a hockey game where you switch players. The finale has to be with the right hand though.

As for fishing, I prefer to do all lure casting with lefty reels. I'm right hand dominant and like to hold the rod with the right and add action to the lure with the rod in that hand. I use a 201 Curado BSF, a Calcutta 201TE, a 401TE, an Avet MXL, and a lefty Pro Gear 540 Albie Special to do this with line classes from 8lb to 40lb. All other gear I have is conventional. Since those right handed reels are pitching live bait, trolling, or dropping bait, live or dead, down to the bottom, I don't need to add any action to those baits. They would get bit if I was reeling with my feet.

I do think it's a huge pain in the ass and gear-limiting to just own lefty reels. There's just too much great gear out there to stick with lefty reels.

You are normal. But when you're casting lures, do you have to cast with your right, switch the rod to your left, and then reel with your right? Most righty's with conventional gear have to do this... I think that's inefficient to say the least.
