Accurate

Got some stubborn screws in an Accurate boss 270. Anybody have a remedy or tricks for getting those little succers loose other than chemical methods? I've tried using new allen wrenches and no luck. Thanks

The side plate screws? Torx, I believe...not allen. That's what I have on the 870 and 665.

early ones were hex heads. later ones are no. 7 torx heads. the ones that were installed dry had a pretty high seizure rate, but then even one seized up screw is one too many for me. by the time they switched over to T7 heads, i think they were also packing the holes with cal's grease.

drizzle some xtreme reel + into the holes and wait a day. then try it. send me a pm with your address and i'll send you a sample vial. i have a half dozen left. alan

once you remove them, you may want to change over to the torex heads. be sure to grease the holes before re-installing.

now is a good time to tear down all your accurates AND GREASE all the screw holes. be sure to pak the screw heads with muscle grease to keep as much moisture out.

should you not be able to remove the seized screw, you will have to send 'em into Accurate. call the gang first and tell 'em before sending for good measure.

and if for some reason that does not work, try tapping the screw with a hammer. You'll have to cut off the tool to get distance from the frame. Insert the tool into the screw and tap the tool with a hammer. Good luck. Trip to AccuCrap is the easiest but po$$ibly the $pendie$t.

BTW, before someone says it, this can happen to ALL reels that have a metal screw going into a metal frame. SS or AL, does not matter.

new problem

Thanks for all of your input (was using an allen when I should have been using 7torx-my eyesight isn't what it used to be!) When throught the reel per Accurate's online tutorial-one bearing bad-fixed and now have about a minute of freespool- problem is I cannot adjust the drag now. I reinstalled the cam several times following the tutorial again and the knob will not turn. The lever works fine from freespool to engaged however when in freespool the knob will not turn. I've changed the positioning several times to no avail. I had to walk away from it and that's why I'm here again. Appreciate any advice or help you can provide as I probably did something lame again. Thanks

I'm trying to see this by memory, so.... Is the adjustment all the way backed out when you install into the lever(on to the cam track)? Or if the adjustment is not moving at all when the cam is out, it may be stuck on the end. Use pliers to pop it free....go easy. Add a drop of corrision x where the threads are.

It sounds like the "O" ring is so dry it will not allow you to turn the pre-set knob.

you may have to apply reel-X around the preset knob and allow it to soak in. then try turning it CAREFULLY with small pliers. continue to add lube as the "O"ring begins to appear while spinning it, working the preset in and out. the trick will be to get some lube inside where the "O"ring rides.

Make sure the cam is correctly indexed. If you were a little closer I'd say just call me and come by and we can get it straightened out. I take my Accurates apart after every trip for giggles.
