| Is one braid better than other braids???
Hey all,
Okay, I only really started using Braid last year. I used some Firewire many years ago (8+) when it came out and it was soso back then. But now it seems to be a lot better.
I am going to be spooling a bunch of reels with braid. 30, 50, 80(maybe 65) & 100# is the current plan (Dawia Millionares (3), avet sx(3), lx, hxw).
Is there one brand that is a lot better than the others. I used the yellow spiderwire last season on one reel and liked it, except that the color faded really fast and then it became white. Tried another brand, Tuff I think, and it was really waxy and not good for flipping or feeling the bait. The millionares are for river salmon in fairly strong current, the SX are fished freshwater and saltwater. All will have a mono top on them, I think.
What do you all suggest and like, and why??
Thanks

All my reels have either Jerry Brown or Izorline spectra on it, one has power pro but I do not like the wax either. JB and izor are the best in my opinion.

Blackwater is one of the only ones I have not tried.

i feel the question you need to be asking yourself first is "hollow vs solid". for me, hollow is the way to go for splicing reasons. this will cut down your choices a bit.
after that price will be the other factor.

Okay, what is the difference between hollow and solid??? The smaller reels, I think solid will be fine as I might just use braid to a swivel and then a leader from there. Not sure on the LX and HXW. Educate me....

smaller being bait casters, then by all means solid. jerry brown makes a solid that is a finer weave and smoother and nicer for solid. i use his 40lb even on my smaller reels. how small of a reel are you talking about and what poundage were you going to use?
60lb and up, hollow due to splicing for loops and leaders.

if your just going to use a swivel to connect your spectra to mono, i would go with izorline spectra....although you might want to learn a couple knots to connect the spectra to mono, something like a bimini to worm knot or the uni to uni.

Yah my smaller reels are several Diawa Millionares, a couple Avet SX, a couple med/lrg spinning. Those will be the 20-50# braid. I think solid will be fine. And if need be I can tie a Bimini to attach a long mono section.
The larger reels are mostly my Avet LX and the HXW. I will have to look into the Hollow. But then the budget issue will come into play.
Thanks for all the great info. Now I have a better Idea what to look for and what I need to research furture.

I've been fishing straight spectra for almost 8 years now and I've tried most of the brands (solid and hollow).
If you're fishing anything but long range, forget about the hollow braids...
Solid spectra fishes and more importantly casts better than hollow (no wind knots or flat line).
I fish Power Pro and Tuff Line. Yes, they are waxy at first, but after a couple of trips they soften up considerably and in my opinion are the best fishing lines.
If you don't like the waxy feel, try another brand, but make sure it's solid.
For your connection, learn the uni to uni or better yet, the Tony Pena knot.
Just my 2 cents...

On my smaller reels(levelwinds), I'm liking Sufix Performance Braid. Have used Stren, Xtuff?, Spiderwire Steath, Powerpro(shit). Sufix gives me the best overall.....so far.
Larger offshore, Line One/Jerry Brown. Small reels, solid. Sixty and up, hollow. Blackwater is good line but way to expensive for me.
Jerry Brown is one of the nicest guys there is. Great customer service. Great product.
