Respect. All of that can be done with a 16 VSX sent to Cal at half the weight and less money than a 50W.

that's kewl to think Kev
those damn vsx are beyond heavy
for their size
but, yeah i guess the one 16vsx that's the size of my 665 to fish kite?
i need more capacity than that and bigger string
most of the boats use the 80 class reel for capacity at distance and heavier line
the 16 is a killer 80lb spectra 60lb reel for tuna in the hundy+ category though

The question is what 50. ATD...topless, twin drags, 130# JB hollow w/200# hollow on top. Yeah, it's good to have an ATD 30 too. But it's good to think big. Pissed off supercows.

Aside from the 50# of drag, you also need to have the low gear swapped out to 1.3 to one. So it's 5.7 high and 1.3 on the low. It holds almost 700 yds if it's done right. Your last 100 yds is 130# for the verical up and down prior to gaff. It's been catching the 250 to 300# class fish this last season in a few people's hands.

I know this forum is for 50 size reels but what would be the best way to load up a atd 30 as far as spectra and top shot to have it an all around heavy rig??

Go straight 100 pound J.B. Hollow. You can top it with 50 yds of 130 if you want. Short top shot and you are good to go. Prior to the hollow 100 it was filled with 80 J.B. Hollow with 50 Yds. of 130 hollow. Now the 100 gives you almost as much line as the 80 and I believe it is less costly. Great rig, my favorite for Cows.

Enjoy

Jamie

Just wondering if an Avet Pro EX 30N set right is in the remotest ballpark for the 200 eastern Pacific yellowfin. Sorry if it's a dumb question. Seems like the Avet 30 has drag and yardage capacity. My biggest yellowfin to date is only 64 lbs., but I'm on a 10 day on the PS in mid November. If I need to lose the 30N and get a 50 I better get on it now.

Actually, I'd bring both. One big reel ain't gonna cut it on a 10-day with cows around.
And there really is only one 50 to think of, IMHO...and it's the ATD 50. My .02
Bobby~
