that's right, you don't need a 2 speed until it's a tuna. the saltigas and saltists are wonderful if they weren't so slow. the torque, one heavy mofo for slinging jigs/bombs, the newell, i love, except it's peanuts for balls.
the accurate, a feather.
you are 15 right? no wonder you can't wind , yet, on the bombs you should be able to stick em. i like to use jigs primarily and backpeddle on the stopped jig maybe 10 ft as i'm "trying" to wind trying to stick the jig, and, for the most part, that depends on what type of jig, a painted 6x jr or chromed raider, painted being much harder to pull through.

I have broken two trinidads in Panama on wahoo, both lost the anti reverse quality. I just picked up an avet hx, hope she gets the job done.

332 with greased HT's or other greased brakes. Put some ceramics in it if you want a quiet cast....

Next would be a: HX, Saltiga, or Trini.

AccuCrap would be last just based on casting that heavy pig all day.

anything less than a 533 is a penn 500 drag ceramic or not.
double z, the hx is a load, the heaviest 4 sure.
dogs on the trini, no anti reverse bearing, about as fast as a smaller trini due to spool size, but not faster than a 4/0 sized spool doing 6 to 1
the saltiga is slow
accurate is a feather, especially in the NN size
strongest lightest fastest ..........and here's the drawback, most expensive.

"double z, the hx is a load, the heaviest 4 sure."

the 665 is the same and the 665n is 2oz lighter. But, the HZ spool is lighter and spins better = better fling'er. Still, the 332 will do the job, even if that 150lb Yellow Fin Tuna comes a calling. Yep, my $5 drag kit will probably get tossed in the 332 after...

100lb, I'd fish the 665. Up to 80lb, the 870 will hang. I'd still go Newell for the skins. With that said, I don't think there is a reel mentioned that won't hang. The Trini's seem to have the only defect that will cause pain or lost fish but I've fished them pretty hard and have not seen/felt that.

Just to keep the conversation going, I like my reels to be the same. By "Same," I mean operation. All levers or all stars. I'm all levers. Avet, Daiwa, and AccuCrap. If you are all stars, pick the "best" you can. If you can switch back and forth, you are my hero. Of course I'm the guy thinking.... I'm hungry, I need a nap, look at this view, I love fishing!..... Blah, Blah, Blah...

Nice thread

the anti reverse pawl can 'chip' and not engage properly overloading the one-way roller bearing as the secondary means of keeping the handle from infamously spinning backward breaking thumbs.

shimano fixed it by using an 'improved' pawl. alantani wrote about a mod in dev. adding a second roller bearing ā la accurate boss as a back-up measure. this would require radical sugery.

this only concerns the 16/20/30 trinis and tors. imo, it isnt an issue if you fish them under 15# of drag.

Jx 6/3 I have two with 60 JB and 50 big game mono. Never came close to being spooled even when a 90 pound Yellow Fin Tuna held on. Calstar 700H my preferred rod tossing Burns Bombs. I've caught 7 Wahoo all over 50 pounds with these reels. The Avet HX is an over kill and weight to much for tossing irons and bombs. IMO

DZ,
i kinda liked the hx....j
it was still heavy compared to the 665nn
don't want to be thinkin about windin back and forth on the spool
just windin
had a custom narrowed 533 that was awesome but went for a step up in drags
if i had to consider the jx then i'd throw the 870 or consider the saltist @ 6.4to1 (although i prefer the saltigas(for weight not speed)
but, i want the taller spool
that's why the 533 (5to1), the trini 40n (4.9to1), hxj (5.4to1)and 665n and nn (6to1, 5 to 1,in the 2 speed)have the advantage
line pick up and torque
of which, the accurate is the fastest of the tall spools, lightest, strongest, etc
yeah ....and most expensive

I have used a narrowed Newell 533 and that is a classic reel. I also use my Saltiga 30T and it is awesome. For more of a budget, I have caught them on a Saltist 40H and it worked great.
