Praise for the LX 6/3

I just came off the Yo's 11 day on the Royal Polaris...I'm not a regular on the long range circut, but consider myself a good fisherman, and was bent pretty much this whole trip. until the last two days at the rocks the bite was consistant 15-60lb tuna, plus all the Yellowtail u could want plus many wahoo. During the first 6 days of fishing, with exception of dropperloop fishing at night, and throwing jigs (newell 533 5.5) I exclusively fished the LX with 40. I'm not sure how many fish I put on the boat with the reel (including two whoos), but it would suffice to say that it was alot. I don't think anyone was out casting my flyline dines and that was the biggest difference in gettng bit or not...the only thing I did to the reel during the entire trip was change the mono each night. The last two days, we got on bigger fish, I bumped up the tackle a bit, but in reality, I could have simply upped the topshot and probably been fine. In the end, I got a 118 on the newell (throwing a jig), but would have been much more comfortable with the lx in my hands. Not posting this as a brag post, just wanting what I consider a great product to be recongnized...I've been fishing for over 40 years both professionally, and as a sport, this is the first time I've felt compelled to simply complement a product for what it is.

The LX 6/3 is a great reel. I don't fish Newell, I use a magged JX 6/3 to throw a jig. I like it because I have the same confidence in it that I feel w/ the LX (and its black so it looks cool!).

Both LX 6/3 and JX 6/3 are great reels. From 30-50 they get it done. I did notice that you get a lot more drag when you actually fish and you DO NOT notice the handle binding. I noticed it a lot on the couch and read quite a few articles complaining about it; I worry no more. When yellowtail or tuna are pulling - you never notice it a bit. My drag a strike has gone up a lot from the first trip.

I was pretty sold after we got a 327# tuna last year on a JX aboard Aleta in PV.

They will take all the abuse you can dish...

I rember that 327 when it was reported, I could not beleive it. That was an awsome catch. I too like the LX 6/3 and J/X 6/3. Caught Yellow Fin Tuna up to 110 lbs on the reels without a hitch. Very good product.
