I was once told Sting Ray is excellent eating. As I understand it, you cut off the wings and BBQ them and the meat peels right off. Anyone ever try it? If so do you add any particular spices on it or anything to dip it in?
Seems I catch my share and was thinking I might try it next time if I had a reciepe for it.

You hear all kinds crap about eating bat rays( I assume thats what you meant)."They taste like scallops" among other things.Someone around here has probably tried cooking one of those things.I'd be interested in finding out how it comes out.Even if you say It tastes like ribeye I'm still not gonna eat one though.

So long as you have a belly full of poppers when you eat it you'll be ok.

Tried it once. Nothing much to say about it. Didn't bother trying it again. Some cultures cook it and Love it so maybe I didn't cook it right. One summer I actually fished commercial and when we delivered the "Skate wings" at 0 dark thirty the next morning people whould be there and SNAP them up faster than the Halibut. Brought a good price per pound too.

Typically skate wing is used by many cultures. Bat Ray is also a subsitute. I've cooked it once and it was fine. To be honest I didn't care killing the ray. Had it been delicious I might deal with that but it was ok and IMO not worth taking the life of these strange alien little creatures.

My father in law (best damn Italian cook) would scallop the wings of bat ray's and use them in a myriad of recipes. Its all in the way you cook them.
Look at Bonito and barracuda. Ive smoked bonies (he he) and have had barracuda from a friend that was in an egg-foo young mixture I would pay to eat
The food is only as good as the cook

| Re: Sting Ray Wings I just asked my dad, he told me Mexicans use rays in soup and sell it as sea turtle soup, since they “cant harvest them any more.” Yes I’ve had turtle soup as a kid and it was good. Anyways thought I share that with you. Deno

I would go to PL seafoods "BUY" some fish before I ate stingray.
Not saying I wouldnt try it though.

I've tried skate, which I imagine is similar. Skin it, de-bone it, dredge it in flour. Saute in olive oil, then add a huge chunk of butter and a couple sage leaves. Cook until the butter browns. Pretty good that way. I imagine ray would be the same.
