As both and exhibitor and just a show goer, I for one have always enjoyed the Del Mar show. I attended it and Long Beach every year and what I like about Del Mar is the smaller crowds and laid-back attitude compared to Long Beach. All of the majors do both shows and a bunch of the swap meet, hokey ones from Long Beach don't, which I for one like.
To me, the best part of Del Mar is that except for the weekend, you generally get a lot more time to talk with the factory people and reps about their stuff, how to use it, etc. because they usually have the time to do that at Del Mar, while that kind of insight is almost impossible to get at Long Beach. And they still have the trout pond for the kids and for them too, the smaller crowds are better. It's a good show.
