Wife has been agonizing over a new digital camera and I know I've seen some shots, especially from the yakkers, that are darn nice photos in this place .... any recommendations on something thin, waterproof (resistant), zoom that doesn't blur everything when you use it, good price, etc. ? Thanks.

Thanks. | I have the Olympus Stylus 720 SW that's permanently attached to my boat. It's waterproof. The images are just ok at best, but it gets the job done. If your wife is interested in a Digital SLR camera, pm me and I will get you setup on a bro deal.

Digital Camera Reviews and News: Digital Photography Review: Forums, Glossary, FAQ has reviews on tons of cameras, check it out.
the blur during zoom you are talking about is most likely just because you are in "digital zoom" mode wich is when you get to the end of the cameras focal length (lens zoom capability) and it just starts enlarging pixels and makes a mess, in effect it is the same as if you had just taken the shot and magnified it on photoshop, I turn the digital zoom option off on all my point and shoot cams.
...but then again, I may be wrong.

I've got the same one and love it. If you go to Sports Chalet, they sell it with a water PROOF housing for diving. It also protects the camera during boat use. Decent video but not much zoom.

Optio W20 is what I have, waterproof, takes video underwater with sound, very easy to use.
The newer version is the W30, same camera, higher resolution and a few other bells and whistles.

most little point and shoots only have 3X optical zoome, the most ive seen for a little camera is the sony t70 or t200 at 5X, which are cool little cameras. touch screen and have a pretty quick burst mode. if you wanna go SLR, i recommend the canon rebel xti. bitchin camera, i shoot with its ittle bro the XT, but the xti is just a step above with 2 more megapixels and a self cleaning sensor. i really like canons. especially their point and shoot. the sd 750, 1000, and 850's are bitchin little point and shoots. The olympus waterproof cameras are way cool, people come into my work and tell me they took em snorkeling and everything. However i dont think they take quite as nice of a shot as a canon, nikon, or sony.
just a seasonal best buy employees thoughts haha

Go to Costco on Morena Blvd and talk to Dave @ Merch. Pick-up or @ the camera display. He is a Professional Photographer and knows his shit! I have worked with Dave for over 20 years and he's done several weddings for my family.

I have the Olympus 720 SW. Takes great pics on the surface and underwater. Takes video (with sound) underwater. Not many cameras will do sound underwater. Lens goes to 55mm and at which point far away subjects will get a little grainy. It is heavy so if you take it on a boat attach a float to it should you drop it overboard. Will take a drop from up to 5feet. Best Buy usually has it on display.
Good luck.

He knows cameras and what they can and cannot do.

It's about like asking for a good accountant and being told to see the guy at Von's in the produce section, he's a CPA"
There's probably some Costco employees that are great photographers and no doubt some gifted CPA's that stock lettuce at Von's but it was still funny.
