Re: Bleeding fish?

Cut the throat at the gills, you will see the blood pump out. I bleed all the fish that I am going to eat except for when I am on a charter as I am not sure if the deckhands will like it. Usually the gaff does a pretty good job of bleeding it anyway...it does make a diff in the taste.

Re: Bleeding fish?

Pull one gill. If you pull a bunch the fish can die before it totally bleeds out.

For Dorado we use a screwdrive to the head, if you hit it at the correct angle the pinkish brain drool will come out, then it dies.... fast....

For Tuna we come from the front and hit soft spot on the head with the screw driver or needle nose. Kills'em quick.

We bleed all fish as well.

If your handling rockfish and don't want to get poked, use scissors to cut a gill.

Alot of the guys use these

They also cut spectra like butta...

THEY should bleed the fish before you even get a chance to. i wouldnt fish on a boat that didn't do it right away. and if the deckhand doesnt like it, he's an idiot and do it anyways.

Sharks are bled out aswell in many ways, tail rope and team work is a must and gaff to the melon and stretched out or 2 gaffs ( 1 tail and 1 melon and stretched out ) compentent team work is a must as is a sharp fillet knife also. a cut just behind the last gill across the back to sever the spinal cord and life isgood. I know somebody else can say this more eloquentily than I have and please chime in. when you have it stretched cut the gills on one side
