so i am wondering what the west coast tuna species are bighting on... i have gotten into trolling assorted lures, plastics and fresh baits for Blue Fin Tuna and Yellow Fin Tuna. ova here Maine. no one uses lures like jet heads, rockers, smokers up here. but i figure lures like this have to work so i started to give it a try and low and behold i caught a couple. but i am wondering about people ideas on lures, rigging them (singles, chains, chains with a wieghted stinger, lures with bait under the skirt) and trolling speeds.
Would love to get some new ideas other than the same ole NE sh*t, ie squid bars and fresh mac spreaders
us west coast guys like to troll feathers, cedar plugs, jet heads, hoochies, cedar plugs ,spreader bars, and daisy chains for albacore and yellowfin off shore. around kelp paddys we sometimes slow troll a live sardine or a mackerel around kelp padies for yellowtail and dorado. for inshore we slow troll live bait, rapalas, poppers and even plastics for yellow tail, bonito, and all the shit.
A couple years back the Rapala was pretty popular offshore although it slows you down a bit.
If your catching fish like the one in your avatar over there than I would not be asking us Westies about trolling . Over hear we gotta pay 5k to catch a fish that size and thats only if your lucky.
Tiny purple jetheads for the albies this year seemed to be the ticket. I like the cedar plugs too but didn't get any that way this year. I still use the abortion colored zukers and the mexican flags too. Daisy chain in my line of work is a bad word so I never used a daisy chain jig, that doesn't mean shit though. I have never done any good with rapalas but that doesn't mean shit either. Actually we caught a bonito on one once, but then again that doesn't mean shit either.
I'll wrap your fucking head in with a ratchet Jerkey!

well that was caught on a triple swimmer of Boston macs... now i am just interested in the little ones (under 200lbs.) They certainly dont respond well to the presentations we used off shore on the big guys. but we trolled all big stuff and very slow. the small fish seem more likely to respond at higher speeds thats why i am starting to try lures and more "southern" style of fishing. but that has always been for different species.
