is it legal or not? i have heard it is not legal, and that you can only take them by hand or trap/hoop net. i called dfg and got a recording and nobody ever answers the damn phone. so i figured some of you veterans would know the truth. thanks in advance.

Cought one the other night off my rod...I dont think its legal which is stupid becuase i think if you can trap the boys thats stupid you cant have some random luck to catch them on a hook and line....

hmmm thats what i dont get. why would it be illegal you know, its not like you can see what you are doing down there. and i have not found anywhere in the dfg rules and regulations that say catching them by a rod is prohibited... well, thanks for the info guys.

Both you and your wife need to read the DFG regulations guide, it clearly states all of the questions you are asking.

They don't want people with wads line trying to tangle up lobsters rules are rules , if you have one with you a hoop net or dive gear better be in the boat or they will fine you.

Per DFG regs, you can use up to two rods and reels if fishing from a public peir. I've done on the OB peir and had success.

no worries on questioning the law, as long as you abide by it.
If you (somehow, even knowing the consequences) decide to "flirt with disaster", just remember that CalDFG is very sensitive when it comes to the "California Spiny Lobster" and the fines are
S T E E P. The fines I have read about sure make Anthonys' Lobster dinner look like a bargain!
