Re: ghost shrimp

When I lived in O.B. we went in the lagoon coming by the 8. Walk down the beach and wait for low tide. Go into the lagoon and they should be there. Try going in about a foot of water. Then come back to dry. You will see the holes. Look for ones with some sand around the ring. That means they are in there.

Re: ghost shrimp

If that doesn't work go to Sport Chalet and get some Gulp 3" shrimps in all colors.
We have used them and the sand fleas and worms. Good for perch and stuff.

Re: ghost shrimp

Many times just finding the holes is not enough. Those holes can mark them but the y may be deep. Take 3 or 4 pulls make sure you are VERTICAL and see if it helps. Some times they are 6 inches but some I have gotten as deep as 2 feet.

Be sure your not pumping worm holes or clam vents too.

Good luck

Re: ghost shrimp

a really good spot for getting them is at the bridge that crosses from huntington to newport on the riverbed side. you have to wade out through water about up to your waist until you reach the sandbar that is out in the middle ,you'll start seeing holes everywhere in little pools.theres also alot of sole, and small halibut in there.

Re: ghost shrimp

You won't find any on an ocean facing beach, they like the more "muddy" beaches in the lagoons and bays. Low tide is a must unless you like swimming.
