hooping cortez

The plan is fish the albies fri then hit the cortez fri /sat nite and if its nice stay on the high spot till sun nite, come back mon noon.I have multi day permit so if they fit in my bait tank 60Click the image to open in full size. bugs will come home with me. One other boat (gone gusto) is down for the trip. Anyone with time and range launching oside or dana point, (bait will be the deciding factor) thurs around 8:00 pm. Call me crazy but I gotta see what those bugs look like. Click the image to open in full size.Click the image to open in full size.Click the image to open in full size.

Re: hooping cortez

I'd be watching the weather and bouy reports 5 times a day, everyday until you go. Then, listen to the weather channels all day. Good luck.

That sounds like a great trip Jim, good luck. I look forward to the day I can take my ride out for a three day weekend without having to worry about fuel etc. Have fun!

looks good so far, but that can change in less than a day. I would love 10 kts or less so we can dive and fish time will tell.

Re: hooping cortez

I have dove it with scuba gear during the lobster opener and the lobsters were big and plentiful, but we were in 110 feet of water. Flat calm, no wind and you could see the bottom from the boat. We never had to launch the skiff either as there was no current for the divers to get swept away in.

I would imagine the hooping would be very good provided the weather cooperated and you could anchor shallow enough to make pulling feasible. You could probably hang some big yellows at night there as well.

I'm looking forward to the report...

It's gonna be tough hooping the area - it's a really snarly bottom and with any current the nets are gonna get hung up pretty easily. There is certainly a lot of bugs there though. I say give it a try! Are you gonna have any divers with you?

no divers lots of current will be a problem I use conical nets they seem to work better in the rocks.
